Man, 35, and woman, 36, charged with 'concealing birth of child' after newborn girl found dead at fl

A MAN and a woman have been charged with "concealing the birth of a child" after a newborn girl was found dead at a flat.

Cops were called to an address in Harold Hill, Havering, Essex, on Tuesday following concerns for the baby's welfare.

After arriving at the property, they made the tragic discovery.

Ahmed Mahad, 35, and Dawn-Marie Huxtable, 36, were arrested on suspicion of murder at the time.

They have since both been charged under Section 60 of the Offences Against the Person Act, Concealing the Birth of a Child.

The tot's death is currently being treated as unexplained, say the Met Police.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out to establish a cause.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said earlier this week: "This is a tragic incident and we understand it will be hugely upsetting for local people.

"Our officers are still at the scene and we thank residents for their patience while we carry out our critical enquiries.

"At this time, the baby's death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will take place at the earliest opportunity to help us determine what may have happened and to confirm how long the baby's body had been there.
