Urgent lottery warning to check numbers as $44 million jackpot prize expires in hours & ticket was s

LOTTERY players have just 48 hours remaining to check their tickets for a $44 million prize.

The jackpot remains unclaimed but will disappear for good if nobody comes forward with the winning ticket.

If you play the lottery in the state of Florida, it's time to have one last look for that winning ticket.

That's because a $44,000,000 prize is due to expire on Monday.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Sunoco Express on North Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee back in June.

It produced the winning numbers for the draw held June 14, which were: nine, 13, 15, 46, 51, and 52.

But under Florida Lottery rules, the rightful ticket holder only has 180 days from the draw date to come forward and collect their winnings.

That means the final date to claim is Monday, December 11.

The owner of the gas station that sold the winning ticket, Navjeet Khela, told WESH: "We would like all of our customers to check their tickets.

"This is truly a substantial amount of money."

LOST RICHES

While it is shocking to think that someone could let such a life-changing sum of money slip through their fingers, it wouldn't be the first time that a jackpot has gone unclaimed.

Since the Florida Lottery was launched in 1988, a total of 30 jackpots have failed to find their rightful owner.

According to John Davis, secretary of the Florida Lottery, 80% percent of this $44 million will be transferred to the agency's Educational Enhancement trust fund if nobody claims it.

The other 20 percent will be placed back into a pool for future prizes and promotions.

THE ELEVENTH HOUR

He told WESH that it is not unusual for jackpot winners to wait a little while before coming forward, but they rarely leave it this late.

"We do expect 30 to 60 days, oftentimes, for a prize of this amount before we even hear from someone, which, typically, they're taking the time to meet with attorneys," said Davis,

"We have not heard anything just yet," he added.

"We're hopeful between now and midnight on Monday that someone will come forward."

But Florida is not the only state with some significantly large unclaimed lottery prizes.
